Furniture and Things in Our Homes
Learning Goals:
- Learn new words for furniture and appliances.
- Talk about which items we like better.
- Describe what we have in our homes.
Vocabulary:
Furniture Words:
- Bed: Where you sleep. (There are different kinds, like bunk beds and sofa beds!)
- Sofa/Couch: A big, comfy seat.
- Chair: Smaller than a sofa, but still comfy!
- Table: You can eat on it, work on it, or play games on it.
- Desk: A special table where you study or work.
Things in the Kitchen:
- Refrigerator/Fridge: Keeps food cold.
- Stove: You cook food on it.
- Oven: It’s like a hot box for baking.
- Microwave: It heats up food super fast!
- Sink: Where you wash dishes.
Talking About What We Like:
Sometimes we want to say one thing is better than another:
- Bigger: My bed is bigger than yours.
- Smaller: My kitchen is smaller than yours.
- More comfortable: This sofa is more comfortable than that chair.
- Better: This new refrigerator is better than our old one.
Let’s Talk!
- What’s your favorite piece of furniture in your home? Why do you like it?
- What’s the most important thing in your kitchen? Why do you think so?
- If you could have any new piece of furniture, what would you want?
Let’s Read!
- A sofa bed is a sofa that can turn into a bed for guests.
- Some people like gas stoves because they heat up quickly.
- A refrigerator keeps food fresh so it doesn’t go bad.
Game: “What’s Missing?”
Put a few objects from around the room on a table. Have a friend close their eyes, and then take one object away. Can they guess what’s missing?
Homework:
Draw a picture of your dream kitchen. What kind of stove and refrigerator would you have? What other things would you want in it?
Extra Fun:
Look through magazines or online for pictures of different furniture and appliances. Make a collage of your favorites!
