Our Amazing Earth: Land, Water, and Living Things
Learning Goals:
- Learn new words about the Earth’s natural features.
- Talk about different types of environments and how they are formed.
- Read about the importance of protecting the Earth’s resources.
- Listen to a description of rivers and their role in the world.
- Write about the importance of rainforests.
Key Words:
- Landform: A natural feature on the Earth’s surface, like a mountain or valley.
- Biome: A large area with similar weather, plants, and animals.
- Ecosystem: A community of living things and their environment (plants, animals, water, soil).
- Flora: Plants.
- Fauna: Animals.
- Natural resources: Things from the Earth that we use, like water, trees, and minerals.
Let’s Talk About It!
- What are some different landforms you can think of? (Mountains, hills, valleys, plains.)
- What are some different biomes? (Forests, deserts, grasslands, tundra.)
- Why is it important to protect our natural resources?
Let’s Read!
The Earth is a wonderful place! It has tall mountains, dry deserts, and amazing rainforests. Rainforests are like Earth’s lungs. They have so many different plants and animals, and they help keep our planet healthy. But we need to protect them because people are cutting down too many trees.
Questions About the Reading:
- What are some different landforms found on Earth?
- Why are rainforests important?
- What is happening to rainforests?
Listen and Learn!
(Teacher plays a short clip describing rivers. Focus on how rivers provide water for people and animals and how they have helped civilizations grow.)
Talk with a Partner!
One of you is a nature explorer. The other is a friend asking questions about different biomes.
Example:
- Friend: “What’s it like in the desert?”
- Explorer: “It’s very dry and hot. There are cacti, lizards, and snakes. It hardly ever rains.”
Homework:
Write a short paragraph about why rainforests are important. What do they do for us and the planet?
Extra Fun:
If you can, find pictures or videos of different biomes online. Share them with the class and discuss what makes each one unique!
