Protecting Our Planet: Be an Earth Hero!

Key Words:
- Environment: The world around us, including air, water, land, plants, and animals.
- Activist: Someone who takes action to change things they think are wrong.
- Environmental activist: Someone who tries to protect the Earth.
- Protect: To keep something safe from harm.
- Pollution: Harmful substances that damage the environment.
- Climate change: Changes in the Earth’s weather patterns.
Let’s Talk About It!
- What are some things that are harming our planet? (Pollution, littering, using too much water and electricity, cutting down trees.)
- Have you ever done anything to help the environment? What did you do?
- What are some other things you can do to be an “Earth hero”? (Recycle, plant trees, use reusable bags, etc.)
Let’s Read!
Many people around the world are working hard to protect the Earth. Some people protest against pollution, some clean up beaches, and some help plant trees. They believe that everyone can make a difference!
Listen and Learn!
(Teacher plays a short clip of environmental activists talking about their work. Focus on simple actions the activists took, like starting a community garden or organizing a beach cleanup.)
Talk with a Partner!
One of you is a student who wants to help the environment. The other is a friend who is giving advice.
Example:
- Student: “I want to help the Earth, but I’m not sure what I can do.”
- Friend: “You could start by recycling everything you can at home and school. You could also try walking or biking to school instead of taking the bus.”
Homework:
Write a short paragraph about what you will do to be an “Earth hero.” Choose at least two actions and explain why they are important.
Example:
I will be an Earth hero by recycling and picking up litter. Recycling helps save resources, and picking up litter helps keep our community clean.
Extra Fun:
If you can, make a poster with pictures and messages about how to protect the environment. Hang it up at school or in your neighborhood.
