Welcome, hobby enthusiasts! 🎨⚽️🎧
What gets you excited? What do you love to do in your spare time? Hobbies are a wonderful way to express ourselves, learn new skills, and simply have fun. Today, we’ll dive deeper into our favorite hobbies, sharing our passions and discovering new things about each other.
My Hobby, My Passion
Think about your absolute favorite hobby. What makes it so special for you? Let’s get ready to share!
-
Brainstorming:
- Take a few minutes to brainstorm everything you love about your hobby.
- Consider:
- What is your hobby?
- How often do you do it?
- How did you get started with this hobby?
- What skills or benefits have you gained from it?
- What is the most challenging or rewarding aspect of your hobby?
- What are your future goals or aspirations related to your hobby?
- Write down your thoughts and ideas in a list or mind map.
-
Drafting Your Description:
- Using your notes, write a detailed description of your hobby.
- Aim for a paragraph of 5-7 sentences.
- Use descriptive language and share personal anecdotes to make your writing engaging and interesting.
- Example:
My favorite hobby is playing the Khmer guitar, or chapei dang veng. I started learning when I was eight years old from my grandfather, who is a talented musician. I love the sound of the chapei, which is both soothing and energetic. Playing the chapei has taught me patience, perseverance, and a deeper appreciation for Cambodian music. My goal is to become a skilled chapei player and perform at cultural events one day.

Now it’s time to learn more about your classmates’ hobbies!
- Interview Questions:
- Pair up with a classmate and take turns interviewing each other about your hobbies.
- Use your prepared description as a starting point, but don’t be afraid to ask follow-up questions to get more details.

- “What are some of the challenges you’ve faced?”
- “What advice would you give to someone who wants to try your hobby?”
- Active Listening:
- Listen attentively to your partner’s responses and show interest in what they have to say.
- Ask clarifying questions to make sure you understand their points.
