Hello Again!
Today, we’re going to talk about the things we like and dislike. Everyone has different preferences, and it’s fun to share them with others. Get ready to practice your English while talking about what makes you happy and what doesn’t!
What Makes You Smile?
Think about your favorite things. What do you love to eat? What colors make you feel good? What activities do you enjoy the most? Let’s make a list!
- My Favorites List:
- Grab a piece of paper and make three columns:
- Foods: Write down 3-5 of your favorite foods.
- Colors: Write down 3-5 of your favorite colors.
- Activities: Write down 3-5 activities you enjoy.
- Grab a piece of paper and make three columns:
- Vocabulary Help: If you’re not sure how to say something in English, ask your teacher or a friend for help.
Share and Compare!
Now, find a partner and share your lists. Take turns telling each other about your favorite things.
- Example: “My favorite food is fried rice. I also like mangoes and fish amok.”
As you listen to your partner, try to find things you have in common. Do you both like the same color? Do you enjoy similar activities?
Guess What I Like!
This is a fun game to practice talking about likes and dislikes. Here’s how to play:
- Think of one of your favorite things from your list.
- Give your partner three clues about it, but don’t say the word directly.
- Your partner will try to guess what you’re thinking of.
- If they guess correctly, they get a point!
Example:
- You: “It’s a color. It’s the color of the sky. It’s a calm color.”
- Your Partner: “Blue?”
- You: “Yes!”
Now switch roles and let your partner give you clues!
Show and Tell
Find a picture of one of your favorite things. Show it to the class and tell us why you like it so much.
Did you know? In Cambodia, the color white is often associated with funerals and mourning, while the color red is associated with happiness and good luck.
Your Turn!
Keep practicing talking about your likes and dislikes with your friends and family. It’s a great way to get to know each other better and to improve your English!
