Welcome back, scholars! ππ
Today, we’re going to talk about school β a place where we learn, grow, and make friends. We’ll practice talking about our favorite subjects, teachers, and the things we do at school. Let’s share our experiences and learn from each other!
My School, My Classroom
Every school is different, but they all have some things in common β classrooms, teachers, students, and subjects to learn. Let’s start by thinking about your school.
- Vocabulary Check:
- Subjects: math, science, English, Khmer, history, geography, art, music, physical education (P.E.)
- School Areas: classroom, library, playground, cafeteria, office, etc.
- People at School: teacher, principal, classmate, friend, etc.
- School Sketch:
- Grab a piece of paper and draw a picture of your school.
- Label the different areas and any important landmarks you want to remember.
Talk About Your School
Now, find a partner and share your drawings. Tell them about your school!
-
Describe Your School:
- Mention the name of your school, where it’s located, and how you get there.
- Talk about the different areas of your school and what you do in each place.
- Example: “My school is called Wat Bo School. It’s near the market in Siem Reap. I walk to school every day. My favorite place at school is the library because I love to read.”
-
Favorite Subjects and Teachers:
- Tell your partner about your favorite subjects and why you like them.
- Talk about your teachers β what are they like?
- Example: “My favorite subject is English because I like learning new words and practicing speaking. My English teacher is very kind and patient. She always helps me when I don’t understand something.”
School Day Role Play
Let’s imagine it’s the first day back at school after the summer break. You meet your friend in the schoolyard. Have a conversation about your summer break and what you’re looking forward to this school year.
- Conversation Starters:
- “How was your summer vacation?”
- “Did you do anything fun?”
- “Are you excited to be back at school?”
- “What subjects are you taking this year?”
- “What are you hoping to learn?”
Remember:
- Speak clearly and at a natural pace.
- Use the vocabulary you learned today.
- Ask follow-up questions to keep the conversation going.
Sharing Time!
Who would like to share something they learned about their partner’s school or a funny story from their summer vacation?
