Getting Your Online Shopping Delivered
Learning Goals:
- Learn new words about how things are delivered from online stores.
- Talk about different ways to get your orders.
- Read about how delivery has changed.
- Write a letter to a store about a delivery problem.
Key Words:
- Online Shopping: Buying things on the internet.
- Delivery: When the things you ordered arrive at your home.
- Home Delivery: The things are brought to your house.
- Pickup Location: A place you go to get the things you ordered (like a store).
- Shipping: Sending the things you ordered to you.
- Fast/Slow Shipping: How quickly the things you ordered arrive.
Let’s Talk About It!
- Do you like to get your online orders delivered to your home or pick them up at a store? Why?
- Have you ever had a problem with a delivery? What happened?
- What is the fastest way to get something delivered? (Usually, it costs more money.)
Let’s Read!
In the past, online shopping wasn’t as easy as it is now. There weren’t many choices for getting your orders. You usually had to wait a long time for your things to arrive. Now, you can choose how fast you want something delivered, and some stores even let you pick up your order on the same day!
Listen and Learn!
(Teacher plays a short conversation about a person choosing between home delivery and picking up an order at a store.)
Talk with a Partner!
One of you is a customer with a problem with an online order. The other is the store’s helper. Practice asking for help and giving solutions.
Example:
- Customer: “My order was supposed to arrive yesterday, but it’s not here yet.”
- Store Helper: “I can check on that for you. Do you have your order number?”
Homework:
Write a short letter to a store about a problem with an order. Tell them what happened and what you would like them to do.
Extra Fun:
Look online for different stores that offer different delivery options. Which store has the best options for you?
