The Importance of Subjects
Every sentence needs a subject. The subject is the person, place, thing, or idea that the sentence is about. It’s the star of the show!
Finding the Subject
To find the subject, ask yourself, “Who or what is doing the action?” or “Who or what is being described?”

Example 1: The cat chased the mouse.
- Who chased the mouse? The cat. So, “the cat” is the subject.

- Who is being described? Maria. So, “Maria” is the subject.
Types of Subjects

Noun: A word that names a person, place, thing, or idea.
