Let’s Read!
Football (or soccer) is the most popular sport in the world! Billions of people watch the World Cup, a big football tournament that happens every four years. You can play football almost anywhere with just a ball and some friends.
Listen and Learn!
(Teacher plays a short clip of a sports announcer talking excitedly about a game. Focus on how the announcer describes the action and the players.)
Talk with a Partner!
One of you is a sports reporter, and the other is a famous athlete. The reporter asks the athlete questions about their sport and their career.
Example:
- Reporter: “How did you get started in (sport)?”
- Athlete: “I started playing when I was a kid. I loved it right away!”
- Reporter: “What’s been your biggest challenge as an athlete?”
Homework:
Write a short paragraph about why you think sports are important. Do they help people stay healthy? Make friends? Learn new skills?
Extra Fun:
If you can, watch a sports game on TV or online. Try to describe what’s happening using the new words you’ve learned.
